THE INTERVENTIONS OF THE BODY
Atelier Marvy’s final guest-artist for the 2017 ‘gallery’ section is İsmet Doğan. His much sought after mirrors and paintings will be on display in this exhibition entitled ‘The Intervensions of the Body’. About İsmet Doğan: In his initial works in the 1980’s, İsmet Doğan, problematized history, culture and traditional concepts by merging them with Dadaist techniques such as collage, installation and ready-made objects. On the other hand, as a philosopher/thinker he focused particularly on the consequences in the history of Turkey of violence and trauma as imposed by the westernization-modernization project. Doğan’s modernization problematic is woven into his canvases and mirrors with words such as (Logos, BâBâ) or randomly distributed letters and these have come down to our day as part and parcel of his works.
